Before it runs
- One word worth the lower two-fifths of a page. A phrase breaks the form; if it will not fit on one line at enormous size, it is the wrong word.
- A quote that earns its place. This cover has two texts and no pictures, so a limp sentence has nowhere to hide.
- Nothing else to say. The form has exactly five slots because a sixth fact turns a silence into a leaflet.
When to reach for it
When one word should carry a whole cover and one sentence should earn its right to sit above it. The opposite end of the shelf from a loud cover: no grain, no badge, no ornament — the only decision left is how big each tier is, and this one makes that a number.
